A few things clients often ask before we begin. If yours isn't here, we're always happy to talk.
The studio & our approach
Our studio is based in Cascais, Portugal, where our creative team develops and oversees our projects.
Our Portuguese base also supports our in-house production and serves as an operational hub for our European sourcing, procurement and logistics.
Your project is led by Gracinha Viterbo, Senior Partner and Creative Director, who sets the creative direction and remains personally involved throughout the project.
You will work with a dedicated Viterbo team across interior architecture, design, procurement, production and project coordination, with each discipline working closely together throughout the process.
Our in-house upholstery, curtain and carpentry teams form an integral part of this structure, giving the design team direct access to the people responsible for bringing bespoke pieces to life.
For private clients, we keep the relationship deliberately personal and senior-led. You will have a clear point of contact and a team that knows your project intimately from the initial concept through to the final installation.
Viterbo brings together creative direction, interior architecture, bespoke design, in-house production, European sourcing, procurement and installation within one integrated studio.
We have our own upholstery, curtain and carpentry production, alongside a network of exceptional European brands, specialist makers and ateliers.
This combination allows us to move seamlessly between design and making, creating pieces specifically for a project while also sourcing from the finest European collections.
Our Portugal-based operation further allows us to consolidate and coordinate European orders before they reach their final destination.
At the centre of the studio is Gracinha Viterbo, Senior Partner and Creative Director, whose personal involvement gives each project a consistent creative direction from concept through to completion.
Yes. While our studio is based in Portugal, we work with private clients and properties internationally.
Our network extends across Europe and beyond, while our Portugal-based operation provides a central point for sourcing, production, procurement and logistics.
This allows us to manage projects internationally while maintaining close control of the process from our base in Portugal.
Gracinha Viterbo, Senior Partner and Creative Director, is closely involved in every project from its initial concept through to completion.
She establishes the creative direction, develops the overall design language and personally reviews the key elements of each interior. Her involvement continues through the selection of materials, bespoke pieces, furniture and finishes, as well as the final styling and installation.
A dedicated Viterbo team manages the day-to-day development and coordination, allowing Gracinha to remain focused on the creative vision and the details that define the finished interior.
This combination of personal creative leadership and a highly experienced team allows us to offer the level of attention expected by private clients while ensuring every aspect of the project is professionally managed.
Every project is personally led by Gracinha Viterbo, Senior Partner and Creative Director, who sets the creative vision and remains closely involved throughout the project.
You will work with a dedicated senior Viterbo team across design, interior architecture, procurement and project coordination. Our structure is deliberately personal: rather than passing clients through layers of management, we maintain direct communication and close involvement from the initial concept through to the final installation.
For private clients, continuity, discretion and trust are fundamental to the way we work.
Private Client Experience
We work primarily with private clients and their representatives, including family offices, private offices, property advisors and other trusted professionals.
We also undertake highly exclusive hospitality projects, where our bespoke approach and attention to detail are applied to exceptional hotels, private hospitality environments and other distinctive properties.
Our approach is deliberately personal. We take on a selective number of projects so that our senior team can remain closely involved and responsive throughout the engagement.

Our approach is deliberately personal. We take on a selective number of projects so that our team can remain closely involved and responsive throughout the engagement.
As much or as little as you prefer.
Some clients enjoy being closely involved in the creative process. Others prefer to give our team a clear brief and entrust us with the majority of the decisions.
We establish the appropriate level of involvement at the beginning of the project and maintain a clear approval process throughout.
Yes.
Our international structure allows clients to participate remotely throughout the design and procurement process, while our team manages the physical aspects of sourcing, production, logistics and installation.
We provide clear, regular project reports and updates, keeping clients and their appointed representatives informed of progress, key decisions, procurement and the overall project programme without requiring them to be involved in the day-to-day management.
Absolutely.
We regularly collaborate with architects, project managers, contractors and other consultants appointed by the client.
Responsibilities are established clearly at the outset so that each discipline can work together efficiently while maintaining the integrity of the overall design
Yes.
Our involvement can extend from the initial design concept through procurement, bespoke production, delivery, installation and final styling.
Our aim is to deliver a fully considered interior in which the furniture, textiles, lighting, accessories and decorative elements have been coordinated as one complete environment.
Yes.
Existing furniture, artwork, antiques and personal objects can be incorporated into the design where appropriate.
We consider these pieces as part of the story of the interior and work to integrate them naturally with newly commissioned and sourced elements.
Discretion is an integral part of our approach to private clients.
Project information, property details and personal preferences are treated with appropriate confidentiality and shared only with those directly involved in delivering the project.
Design & Interior Architecture
We begin by understanding the property, its architecture, the client's lifestyle and the atmosphere they want to create.
The design then develops through interior architecture, spatial planning, materials, furniture, lighting, textiles, bespoke elements and decorative details.
The process continues through procurement, production and installation, allowing the original creative vision to remain connected to the finished interior.
Yes.
Depending on the scope, our team develops the interior architecture, layouts, elevations, details, drawings and specifications required to communicate and implement the design.
That depends entirely on your preference.
We present carefully curated selections in line with the agreed design direction. Clients can be closely involved in each decision or entrust our team to make selections on their behalf.
We establish an approval process at the beginning of each project.
Key decisions are presented to the client or their appointed representative, while agreed areas of responsibility can be delegated to our team so that the project continues efficiently.
Changes are assessed in relation to the overall design, programme and budget.
Where a change has implications for other elements, we identify these before proceeding, helping to maintain control over the project as it develops.
Sourcing & Bespoke Production
Buying directly from shops can give you beautiful products, but the result is ultimately a collection of existing pieces designed for a broader market.
At Viterbo, we create the interior as a complete, individual composition, combining exceptional European brands with bespoke furniture, fabrics, curtains, upholstery and carpentry created specifically for the project.
Because proportions, materials, finishes and details can be developed around the property and the client, the result is far more personal and original — an interior that could not simply be replicated by shopping from a catalogue.
Our role is not simply to source beautiful things. It is to create an interior that is uniquely yours.
We source internationally, with particular access to leading European brands, specialist makers and independent ateliers.
Our selections are driven by the individual project rather than by a predetermined collection of suppliers.
We have our own upholstery, curtain and carpentry production, allowing us to create highly bespoke elements specifically for each project.
Having these capabilities in-house gives our design team a direct relationship with the people making the pieces. This allows us to develop and refine details more closely, maintain greater control over quality, materials, proportions and finishing, and respond more efficiently when adjustments are required.
For our clients, the benefit is simple: greater control over the final result, greater flexibility in bespoke design, and a more seamless connection between the original design concept and what is ultimately delivered.
Why is having production in-house important?
It creates a direct relationship between the person designing the piece and the people making it.
Details can be refined throughout the process, prototypes and samples can be reviewed closely, and the final result can remain faithful to the original design intention.
Yes.
Our European network includes furniture, lighting, textiles, decorative objects and specialist makers.
We combine established luxury brands with bespoke and lesser-known makers to create interiors that feel individual rather than catalogue-driven.
Yes.
Bespoke design is an important part of our work. We commission and produce furniture, upholstery, curtains, carpentry and other elements specifically for individual projects.
Where appropriate, pieces can be developed directly between our designers, our in-house craftspeople and specialist external makers.
Procurement, Logistics & Installation
Our Portugal-based operation acts as a central hub for European sourcing and logistics.
Orders from different brands, makers and suppliers can be received and consolidated through our operation in Portugal before being prepared for delivery to their final destination.
This gives us greater visibility and control over the procurement process.
Where appropriate, items are inspected when received before being dispatched.
This provides an additional opportunity to identify issues, check finishes and coordinate any necessary remedial work before the installation begins
The final installation is carefully coordinated by our team.
Furniture, lighting, textiles, accessories and bespoke pieces are prepared before being sent to the property. Our installation team then travels to site to place, dress and finish the interiors, working through the property room by room and detail by detail.
The installation is coordinated by the Viterbo team.
Where specialist expertise is required, we work with trusted installers and local professionals while maintaining overall coordination of our scope.
Any issue identified during receiving or installation is documented and addressed through our procurement and supplier network.
Where necessary, we coordinate repairs, replacements or remedial work so that the final result meets the required standard.
Yes.
The final stage includes the placement and styling of furniture, textiles, accessories and decorative elements.
Our team considers the interior as a complete composition, ensuring that the final details support the overall design rather than simply filling the space.
Engagement & Investment
Every project is different.
The investment depends on the property's scale, scope of work, level of bespoke production, procurement requirements and location.
Following an initial conversation, we establish the appropriate scope and investment for the individual project.
This depends on the agreed scope.
Services may include creative direction, interior architecture, design development, technical drawings, furniture and finishes selection, bespoke design, procurement coordination and installation oversight.
The exact scope is established at the beginning of each engagement.
This depends on the agreed scope.
Services may include creative direction, interior architecture, design development, technical drawings, furniture and finishes selection, bespoke design, procurement coordination and installation oversight.
There is no standard timeframe.
The programme depends on the scale of the property, design scope, construction requirements, bespoke production and procurement lead times.
A project-specific programme is established at the beginning of the engagement and managed throughout.
We recommend getting in touch as early as possible, particularly for substantial residences involving extensive bespoke production or European procurement.
Our availability depends on our current project pipeline. While there may be periods when we have a waiting list, project timelines can also shift, occasionally creating earlier availability.
As many of our clients entrust us with several residences over time, returning clients are naturally given priority when scheduling new projects.
Our portfolio is intentionally selective, allowing our team to remain closely involved throughout every project and to give each residence the attention and level of detail it deserves.
We assess each project individually based on its scope, location, design ambition and suitability for the studio.
The right fit is as important to us as the size of the project.
Starting a Project
We begin with a private conversation about the property, your requirements and the ambitions for the project.
From there, we determine whether Viterbo is the right fit and, if so, establish the appropriate scope of services and next steps.
Yes.
Private consultations can be arranged at our studio in Cascais by appointment.
No.
We deliberately maintain a selective portfolio and take on a limited number of projects at any given time.
This allows us to remain personally involved and provide the level of attention, craftsmanship and service that defines the Viterbo approach.
Still curious?
We'd love to hear from you
Whatever your question, a short conversation is often the best place to start.
